Tree Planting in Celebration of The Duke of Edinburgh

Te Tapuwae O Rakau are proud to have partnered with The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Scheme NZ, along with Kai Tahu, Kati Mamoe, Waitaha Manawhenua plus Christchurch Attractions, to plant native trees on the Port Hills in celebration of His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh.

On a sunny Saturday in late September, a group of student volunteers joined Te Tapuwae O Rakau at the Christchurch Gondola to plant 90 of the 100 trees. After a dawn blessing led by Nuk Korako, one of our Trustees, the students and Trustees set out to plant the locally sourced trees following our very own Christie Webber, an expert in this field.

The Trust thanks the students for their hard work, and to everyone else involved in making this great commemoration planting event happen. We look forward to planting the final 10 trees at the official opening ceremony. Due to COVID 19, this date is to be confimed.
